The Crescent Kick can be done outside-in or inside-out. Refer to Crescent Kick - Inside for more information on that. The Outside kick uses the Outside edge, or blade of the foot for striking.
This movement is different from most other kicks as it is a 'kinetic' movement, not a power movement. What this means is does not just rely on a muscle to thrust it out - it relies on how much you can flick your leg out and uses the momentum of your leg to do the work. This is very difficult to do slowly and very ineffective if you don't use your balance forces. The muscles pulling your leg in are not very strong, so you need to use your whole body. This is slightly different from the Inside Crescent Kick, as this one needs two twists of the shoulders to execute properly.
