The Crescent Kick can be done outside-in or inside-out. Refer to Crescent Kick - Outside for more information on that. The Inside kick uses the inside edge, or Arch of the foot for striking.
This movement is different from most other kicks as it is a 'kinetic' movement, not a power movement. What this means is does not just rely on a muscle to thrust it out - it relies on how much you can flick your leg out and uses the momentum to do the work. This is very difficult to do slowly and very ineffective if you don't use your balance forces. The muscles pulling your leg in or out are not very strong, so you need to use your whole body.
