In this section, movements will be described with regards to stance, body and hand positions. Many of the defense techniques in the rest of this site will be based off these. Before advanced techniques are practiced, or speed sought on these basic ones, the positioning and movement between techniques need to be understood. Speed and power can be added to a correct technique, but it is a lot more difficult to modify a technique once a bad one has been practiced for a long time.
Study these positions and question every aspect of them. Why should a hand be in a certain position? Why is this stance the best for this technique? There are always multiple ways to perform any technique – eg while a standard punch in this section will be described in a forward stance for maximum power, there are applications where it can be used in a back stance. It would be a short sighted instructor who says there is only one way to do a particular technique. The ‘correct’ way to do a particular technique is the one you understand – you know how and why you are doing it that way. A technically perfect technique, but one you don’t fully understand will never be fully effective.
Here, we will discuss two topics:
1. The Basics of Movements - standard things to know for all movements
2. The Movements that will be used for the defense techniques
